CLASS DESCRIPTION
Simplified SOT® Method: Mastering the Patterns in Four Practical Sessions. Dr. Major Bertrand DeJarnette developed Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT® ) nearly 100 years ago as a predictable, pattern-based system for identifying and correcting subluxations. Many practitioners find the original material complex, but when broken down step-by-step, it becomes a powerful, practical tool that helps patients achieve long-term improvements in function, pain relief, and overall health. This 4-week series (one focused hour each Saturday in June at 12:00 PM CST / 1:00 PM EST) simplifies the core concepts and procedures so you can immediately apply them in practice. Each session covers the “why,” key indicators, proper positioning/blocking, and gentle corrections — building a strong foundation. Those who want the full scientific depth can then advance to SORSI Homecoming 2026 in Atlanta.
Session 1 – Pre-Blocking Procedures: Saturday, June 6 | 12:00 PM CST (1:00 PM EST)
Before diving into the three main SOT® Categories, we prepare the body for better corrections. These foundational soft-tissue and preparatory adjustments help release tension, improve breathing and organ support, and create a more balanced starting point.
You will learn simple, effective techniques including:
- Psoas Release
- Diaphragm Adjustment
- Pseudo Hiatal Hernia Correction
- Ilio-Femoral Adjustment (Anterior)
- Kidney Ptosis Lift
These pre-blocking steps often make the subsequent Category corrections more effective and longer-lasting.
Session 2 – Category 1 (Cat 1) Saturday, June 13 | 12:00 PM CST (1:00 PM EST)
Category 1 addresses pelvic torsion and its impact on the primary cranial-sacral respiratory mechanism — essentially how the sacrum and occiput work together to pump cerebrospinal fluid and support the entire nervous system.
In this session we clearly define:
- What a Cat 1 subluxation is and its key indicators
- Proper patient positioning and pelvic blocking
- The specific correction, including:
- Cervical involvement
- Crest / Dollar sign (#/$) findings
- SB+ / SB– patterns
- Vasomotor considerations
- Basic 1 (the core Cat 1 correction)
- SOTO (if time allows)
You’ll leave with a simple, repeatable protocol for this common foundational pattern.
Session 3 – Category 2 (Cat 2)Saturday, June 20 | 12:00 PM CST (1:00 PM EST)
Category 2 focuses on sacroiliac instability — a sprain/strain type issue where the weight-bearing function of the pelvis is compromised, often leading to compensations higher up in the spine, TMJ, or elsewhere.
We cover:
- Definition of a Cat 2 subluxation, its indicators, and the important Arm Fossa Test
- Positioning and pelvic blocking
- Targeted corrections including:
- Short leg / Long leg patterns
- Stair step
- Basic 2
- Trap fibers
- Sacral Cup (if time allows)
This session gives you practical tools for addressing hypermobility and instability patterns.
Session 4 – Category 3 (Cat 3): Saturday, June 27 | 12:00 PM CST (1:00 PM EST)
Category 3 typically involves lumbar disc stress, nerve root irritation, and antalgic (pain-avoiding) postures — often the end result of unresolved lower-category issues or direct trauma. You will learn:
- Definition of a Cat 3 subluxation, its indicators, and the characteristic antalgic posture
- Positioning and blocking
- Effective corrections including:
- R + C and Lovett Brother relationships (cervical-lumbar pairings)
- Basic 3
- Ilio-Femoral Adjustment (Anterior)
- SOTO / SITI or COTI
- Disc Pump (laying or sitting)
- Orthopedic Blocking, Side-Posture, and Anterior Lumbar techniques
This final session equips you to help patients with more advanced low-back and sciatic-type presentations.
What You Will Take Home: Key Outcomes
By the end of this practical 4-week SOT® series, you will:
-
- Confidently Identify SOT® Patterns
You’ll be able to quickly recognize the key indicators for Category 1, 2, and 3 subluxations — including pelvic torsion, sacroiliac instability, and lumbar disc stress — using Dr. DeJarnette’s predictable model, without feeling overwhelmed by the complexity. - Apply Simple, Effective Corrections
You’ll leave with easy-to-follow protocols for pre-blocking procedures and the core adjustments for each Category (Basic 1, Basic 2, Basic 3, plus key supporting techniques like psoas release, arm fossa test, Lovett Brothers, and disc pump). These simplified steps are designed so you can start using them immediately in your practice on Monday morning. - Achieve Better Long-Term Patient Results
You’ll understand how correcting these foundational patterns supports the body’s natural healing mechanisms, leading to more lasting improvements in pain, function, posture, and overall nervous system balance — helping your patients get better faster and stay better longer. - Build a Strong Foundation for Deeper Learning
You’ll gain a clear, simplified understanding of Dr. DeJarnette’s rich SOT® system that preserves its clinical wisdom, giving you the confidence to integrate it into your current practice and the motivation to advance to the full scientific experience at SORSI Homecoming 2026 in Atlanta
- Confidently Identify SOT® Patterns
INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Kennedy is a mother and a wife of a wonderful little boy and girl, Marco and Giuliana, and a fantastic husband, Bryan. When Dr. Kennedy is not spending time with her family, she can be found jogging or studying chiropractic. Prior to becoming a Chiropractor Dr. Kennedy, spent fifteen years performing massage at world-class resort spas across the country. Dr. Kennedy’s years of massage brings confidence to her touch.
Your relief is most important to us. Chocked off nerves can be damaging over a long period of time. At Enhanced Living we can care for you with little pressure and force, in order to get your nervous system working again. Most people experience reduced pain, some can even notice after visiting the office that other symptoms go away (allergies, headaches, etc.). This is why we know that chiropractic is not only good for back pain and posture, but it is also good for your life.
The techniques Dr. Kennedy uses allows for gentle, accurate adjusting every time. When getting adjusted, some people know chiropractors “crack” and “pop” their back. The “cracks” and “pop” heard by means of a chiropractic adjustment is only one way you can determine a bone has moved. The “cracks” and “pop” are not always heard since it is only a gas exchange between the tissues in the joint space. We use the palpation of spastic muscles, muscle testing and range of motion to determine if the adjustment has been made. X-rays also maybe necessary for proper identification spinal function
Dr. Kennedy has study a variety of ways to adjust the spine including: Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson, Networks, Bio-Geometric Integration (BGI), Sacro-occipital Technique (SOT®) and Upper-Cervical Toggle. Dr. Kennedy’s technique of choice is SOT® Technic..
